What an amazing session on AI in orthopaedics at ESSKA – European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery & Arthroscopy convention 2026 today with Michael Prof Dr. med. Hirschmann and Kristian Samuelsson
Research, foundation models, data quality, reporting standards, clinical applications… the speed at which AI is evolving in our field is truly impressive.
One particularly outstanding presentation from Eric Hamrin Senorski highlighted a key point:
the major limitation is probably no longer the performance of AI models themselves, but their real-world implementation into the clinical workflow.
➡️ How can we integrate these tools without increasing the burden of care?
➡️ How can we ensure they are reliable, transparent, and accepted by clinicians?
➡️ How do we move from technological demonstrations to meaningful patient benefit?
This is exactly the purpose of the Sofcot Officiel 2029 Symposium on AI in Orthopaedics:
to evaluate the real-world use of AI in clinical practice, better understand implementation barriers, measure actual clinical impact, and help bridge two worlds that still interact too little: researchers and orthopaedic surgeons.
Because ultimately, the question is no longer only:
“What can AI do?”
but rather:
“How can we intelligently integrate AI into daily clinical practice for the benefit of our patients?”
